nova Wi-Fi Questions and Answers

Wireless Input Option for the nova150, nova300 and nova500

    March 2020 Q&A

We receive several common questions about the upcoming wireless input option for the nova150, nova300 and nova500. This Q&A is here to provide as much information as possible to keep you up-to-date. Please read and if it does NOT answer your question(s), email us for further assistance. We will add new questions and answers as needed.

When will the wireless input (Wi-Fi & Bluetooth) update be available?
A: The short answer is: when we get the software to the point where our internal team feels it is ready for mass consumption. We will NOT release it with any significant known issues to meet a deadline. We have worked really hard to make nova our best-sounding and most-dependable platform ever and we are holding the wireless input feature to the same standards. All software testing is time consuming, and this wireless update even more so than usual since there are so many variables that need to work seamlessly together.

The longer answer is that we are pleased to report that the sound quality of the WI-Fi input meets our expectations! The sound quality of streaming high-resolution music files from Qobuz over Wi-Fi to the nova is literally the BEST sounding thing we have ever heard from any of our products - ever. Even better than streaming the identical music file through the USB input and we can't wait until everyone else can hear it for themselves! All of the remaining work is related to the user interface and operation. We still have some i's to dot and t's to cross before we sign off on the release. Unfortunately, a few of the software engineers are based in China and the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak has significantly impacted their ability to work on the software so we lost about a month of their time which directly impacted our goal to release in March. We are now working towards an April release, BUT not until everything meets our standards.

How do I get the wireless (Wi-Fi/BT) input option for nova?
A: If you already own a nova150, nova300 or nova500, (or plan to buy one without the wireless input option installed) you will be able to purchase the upgrade for 50% off the suggested retail price including shipping both ways. This is our way of saying thank you for your patience and support while we work to complete this exciting feature! We will let everyone know when the upgrade is available and begin bringing units back to our facilities to perform the upgrade.

If you prefer to wait for a nova with the wireless input installed at the factory, the prices will be as follows:

    nova150 Piano Black $1,599
    nova150 Gloss Mocha $1,699
    nova150-SKY Piano Black $1,899
    nova150-SKY Gloss Mocha $1,999

    nova300 Piano Black $2,199
    nova300 Gloss Mocha $2,299
    nova300-SKY Piano Black $2,499
    nova300-SKY Gloss Mocha $2,599

    nova500 Piano Black $3,299
    nova500 Gloss Mocha $3,399
    nova500-SKY Piano Black $3,599
    nova500-SKY Gloss Mocha $3,699

These are ~5-10% higher than the promotional prices currently being offered. Once Wi-Fi is released, the nova prices will increase. We've been delaying the nova price increase for as long as we could, but increased costs and significantly higher tariffs on imported parts have become more than we can continue to absorb.

How long does the upgrade take? How long will I be without my nova?
A: Our goal is to provide two-business-day turnaround time, so the majority of the time without your nova will depend on the transit time to and from our facility in NC. Our team will work with you to minimize the time without your nova.

    What does the upgrade provide?
A: Basically the ability to stream music over your wireless LAN (Local Area Network) directly from the internet to the nova using a handful of streaming services including:

    • qobuz
    • Tidal
    • Spotify Connect
    • deezer
    • Pandora
    • Napster
    • TuneIn
    • iHeartRadio
In addition, we are working on support for amazon music HD.

Audio may also be streamed directly to nova-SKY using Bluetooth. This is helpful if a streaming service or device you are using is not currently supported by the LinkPlay family of apps or if you want to make a quick wireless connection to a nova-SKY and listen over Bluetooth.

We will continue to monitor the streaming audio services and methods our customers use most often in an effort to remain current with the most popular ones. The streaming music marketplace is constantly evolving and we cannot guarantee that we will support every wireless streaming service or application.

Does the upgrade support AirPlay or AirPlay2?
A: No. We do not plan to support AirPlay or AirPlay2 in nova-SKY. The vast majority of our customers have indicated that they prefer to use streaming services like Qobuz and/or Tidal so they can enjoy the best sound-quality streaming available today. We are also seeing very strong interest in amazon music HD so we are working on that for a future OTA update.

Is the upgrade available for any other Peachtree products?
A: No. The upgrade will only be available for the nova150, nova300 and nova500. Our older products were not designed for the upgrade so they are not compatible.

Can I trade up my nova to a model with Wi-Fi built-in?
A: Yes. We will post details once the Wi-Fi option is available.
