Vintage Audio Repair Service
Looking to have older, non-Peachtree audio equipment repaired?
We would be happy to help get your vintage music gear back in proper working order.
Our head technician has repaired virtually every Peachtree Audio product since the company began and has also been restoring vintage audio equipment for his own collection for decades. He has kindly offered to bring that expertise to our customers, and we are happy to support the effort. It is a great opportunity to keep these classic components out of landfills and incinerators and allow them to provide many more years of musical enjoyment.
To begin the process, please review the information below and then email our service department.
Repair Costs and Process
- We charge a $125 diagnostic fee, which will be applied toward the final repair cost if you choose to proceed with the repair. If you decide not to proceed, the unit will be returned, and the diagnostic fee will be retained to cover the technician’s time. You will also be responsible for return shipping, although our commercial shipping rates are generally quite favorable.
- Repair labor is billed at $75 per hour, plus the cost of any required parts and a reasonable parts markup to cover the additional time and expense involved in sourcing, ordering, and receiving parts that may be unique to your equipment.
- Repairs typically include cleaning and adjustment, replacement of defective components, and a performance check of all functions.
- Because we are working with vintage equipment, some manufacturer-specific parts may no longer be readily available. In these cases, parts may need to be sourced from donor units or specialty vendors, or suitable modern substitutes may be required. We will discuss any significant substitutions or unusual parts requirements with you before proceeding with the repair. The time required to research and identify these options is included in the diagnostic fee.
- Defective or replaced parts will normally be disposed of but can be returned with the repaired unit upon request.
A Note About “Recapping”
Recapping is not a repair. It is a maintenance procedure.
We can certainly recap your unit if desired, but it must be functional. If the equipment is not operating properly, it will need to be diagnosed and repaired before it can be recapped. This allows us to verify that the unit is working correctly before replacing components simply due to age.
Equipment We Currently Accept
Below is a general list of equipment we are currently able to service. If your equipment is not listed, please contact us. We are happy to check with our technician to see if we can help.
- “Golden Age” hi-fi equipment from the 1950s and 1960s, including preamplifiers, power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, tuners, and receivers. Examples include McIntosh, H.H. Scott, Fisher, Marantz, Dynaco, Harman/Kardon, and Eico.
- Hi-fi console amplifiers, tuners, and preamplifiers, including equipment from Magnavox, Zenith, RCA, and similar manufacturers. Customers must be able to carefully remove the electronics from the furniture before bringing or shipping them to us.
- 1970s and 1980s preamplifiers, power amplifiers, integrated amplifiers, tuners, and receivers from manufacturers such as Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui, Kenwood, Akai, TEAC, GAS, Soundcraftsmen, Braun/ADS, Quad, and Leak. We do not currently service tape machines.
Shipping Your Equipment
Units shipped to us for repair must be packed securely so they cannot move inside the box.
We recommend using 3 to 4 inches of protective packing material on all sides of the unit. Double boxing may be necessary for larger or heavier components.
Please keep in mind that vintage audio equipment can be both fragile and heavy. Proper packaging is essential to help ensure safe arrival, and we cannot accept responsibility for units damaged in transit. For higher-value equipment, we strongly recommend purchasing appropriate shipping insurance to protect against damage or loss.
Local Drop-Off
If you prefer to drop your equipment off in person, please contact us in advance so we can arrange a time that is convenient for both parties.
